Lodged between De Pijp and Amsterdam West, Oud Zuid begins just south of Stadhouderskade at Museumplein and fans out to Amsterdam’s Ring highway. This area with in the north the Vondelpark is subdivided in Museumkwartier, Hoofddorppleinbuurt, Stadionbuurt, Apollobuurt and Duivelseiland. The South has always been an elite district connected to the popular Vondelpark for Amsterdam’s bourgeoisie. Today it’s a pleasant place to spend a sunny day. Joggers, walkers, families and couples can be found on the wide tree lined paths next to the water. Nestled south of Leidseplein is where the 19th century Museum Quarter can be found. The area was developed following the construction of the Rijksmuseum which house the famous painting by Rembrandt called “The Nachtwacht”.
Generally this area is quiet, conservative, safe and residential. It’s nearby arterial streets provide easy access to your daily shopping needs and features the most expensive shopping street in all of Holland: the P.C. Hoofdstraat.
